Step 1: Bring Mental Health Education into School Curricula
Mental Health Education has to be a part of all schools’ curricula.
We urge you to take action by sending an email to your school leaders that requests mental health education in your school now.
We welcome you to use the template below that is addressed to school leaders.
Subject: Urgent: Prioritize Mental Health Education for Our Students
Dear [Principal’s Name],
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing as a concerned parent at [School Name]. Given the rising incidence of mental health issues among students, I urge you to consider incorporating mental health education into our K12 curriculum and creating teacher training programs to sustain it.
According to the American Psychological Association (APA) report , mental health crises among young students are on the rise, with a substantial increase in emergency room visits. We know that early education can prevent and alleviate these challenges.
To make mental health education sustainable, it is crucial that our teachers receive proper training. By ensuring our educators are equipped to address these issues, we can create a healthier and more supportive educational environment for our students. Psychologist Dr. Howell says in the article referenced above: “As psychologists, we don’t just want to bring in interventions that only we as experts can deliver…We need to make it sustainable by teaching those on the front lines how to equip kids with the skills they need to thrive.”
Mind Blossom, a nonprofit organization, expertly and tirelessly works to support schools in implementing mental health education. They would be happy to talk to you about the next steps.
Please take this matter into serious consideration for the well-being of our students.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
